It hurts. It never stops hurting. Life as a Guardian is not easy. The battles, the responsibility. We’re still just like everyone else. We get angry, scared, upset, we fall in love, and we die. The older Guardians they have fits of rage sometimes. Throwing things yelling to the air. Crying deep into the night. Inadequacies plague their mind. If I was better would they still be alive? Holding on to pieces of those lost. Carrying their dead body out of the firefight. Their ghost gone. You won’t let the enemy have them. When you make a mistake and you survive, but your team didn’t. Tears in battle that shimmer a hot magma red. A fierce electric blue. A passionate killer purple. Your own light going haywire as you recall your old friends. Your first fireteam… some times teams split…. because the glue went and got himself killed. Every time you see each other the pain comes back. Teams that are no longer composed of the original members. But share the teams name. Teams that form because they’re all that’s left. On the base of the tower. There is a wall. On this wall has etchings of the names of every known guardian lost. Along this wall are mementos. Knife carvings. Poems and prayers. Holes where a grieving Titan punched “IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME YOU RECKLESS IDIOT” can be heard often through the tears. Each guardian grieves different. Me? How do I grieve? I put myself into art. And let myself bury it all. I can’t be sad when many look up to me.
